When she is free, Nancy would be reading or playing netball. She is a polite girl and blends well with other children. Her ambition is to become a lawyer so that one day she may fight for the rights of the less fortunate in society. Nancy is well behaved, a prayer warrior and of excellent academic ability and very respectful. It was also because the other siblings had been taken by other relatives. At that time, due to inadequate resources at OCCH it was not very easy to take the other siblings with her. She has been in the orphanage since 2015 from a village of Otacho area, where she was rescued from the wrath of biting poverty. Nancy is the last born among the two children and is a total orphan. Despite their obvious disadvantages, the Otacho children have all passed and, in some cases, scored very high marks. Consequently, the pass mark for KCPE was lowered. As Kenya’s schools were all closed for most of 2020, it has been recognised that children who attended rural schools and those from poorer households were disadvantaged because of their lack of facilities for remote learning. Whilst they are excited and grateful for the opportunity they may get they are not taking it for granted. They are all aged between fourteen and sixteen. This year four girls and two boys from Otacho Christian Children’s Home have passed their KCPE which qualifies them to enrol at a Secondary School. The distribution of seeds, beans, goats and help in building earthquake and hurricane-resistant houses are examples of this. From school, projects are also set up and implemented to improve living conditions for residents in the area around the school. If necessary, assistance is also provided in the area of temporary shelter, medical care and assistance to children going to other schools. In addition, the children receive a hot meal every school day, often the only meal for them. Over 800 children follow education from first class kindergarten to third grade high school. In the meanwhile, this school has grown into a main building with sixteen rooms, a kitchen, a nursery, a volunteer residence, a private water supply, four wooden changing rooms and a vegetable garden. The goal for next year is to ski as many international competitions as possible and to end up as high as possible to be able to ski the European Championships this year. She does this to be as fit as possible in the winter and to be as well prepared as possible for the competitions. She likes it a lot, despite being the only non-Austrian competitor.įrom this month the physical training starts again with training weeks of 20 hours per week. There are six other girls on this team who also belong to the international ski summit. It was her Dutch trainer who advised her to train with an Austrian private ski team. Ilse was selected by the Dutch National Ccoach for various international children's competitions. She started in competitive skiing in 2017 and was first in the national ranking of the year since 2002 after the first season. Since this year, Koen Pack has been sponsoring Ilse Lek (17), who practices her favorite sport in Austria as much as possible.
